Fees + Frequently Asked Questions

Learn more about what to expect from your first session and the therapeutic process.

Fees & Payment

My rate is $200 per 50-minute therapy session. Longer sessions are available upon request and prorated at the usual rate. Fees reflect the cost of my education, experience, expertise, licensing board fees, trainings, and continuing education.

Insurance

I choose not to take insurance to ensure that every decision made concerning your course of treatment is between you and me, and not a third-party payer. Insurance companies demand that the private information you share with me, also be shared with them. They may request the notes I take during session or any other information you and I discuss. I believe this is none of their business. They may also choose to stop paying for your sessions once your symptoms improve, deeming the treatment no longer a “medical necessity”.

If you have a PPO insurance plan, I'm happy to provide you with a monthly superbill that you can submit directly to your insurance provider for partial reimbursement. Please note this does require a diagnosis.

Cancellation Policy

If a session is rescheduled or canceled less than 24-hours before the scheduled session time, or missed without any notice, you will be charged your full session fee.

Good Faith Estimate

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services. You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Being trauma-informed means I practice from a non-pathologizing framework built on a foundation of safety, transparency, and collaboration. This can look like consistently honoring your lived experience and engaging from the perspective that anything you bring into the therapy room (thoughts, feelings, behaviors, etc.) make sense based on your lived experience. I also firmly believe that healing happens in relationship, and hope to create a space for you to feel fully heard, seen, understood, and accepted, possibly for the first time in your life.

  • Because I am licensed in California and Washington, I can provide therapy to anyone within the states of California and Washington.

  • My office is located in Mission Valley, San Diego. Please note that in-person sessions are limited to Tuesdays and require weekly attendance in order to hold your designated session time. I’m happy to chat more about this during your consultation call.

  • I offer online therapy through Zoom to anyone within the states of California and Washington, and in-person therapy in San Diego, California.

  • Yes! Research has consistently shown that online therapy is just as effective for individuals as face-to-face therapy. There are also added benefits such as scheduling convenience, not having to pay for parking and gas, reduced time in traffic and not having to worry about childcare or petcare. When meeting virtually you can join your therapy session from any location in California or Washington that is both safe and private.

  • Your free 15-minute consultation call is all about connecting so I can answer any questions you may have and see if we’d be a good fit. During our conversation I will seek to understand what is bringing you to therapy, and how I can best support you in meeting your goals for treatment. You will also have the opportunity to ask me any questions you have about myself, my approach, and my practice in general.

At the end of the call you will have the option to move forward with scheduling your first session or to take some time to consider. Alternatively, if your presenting issue is outside my areas of specialty, I may refer you to another provider who’s a better fit for your treatment needs.

  • The first therapy session is about getting to know you and the circumstances that brought you to therapy. I will ask questions that help me to better understand your present and past experiences, your hopes for yourself and your future, and how we can collaborate on setting and reaching your goals for treatment.

  • By seeking therapy you are taking a very positive step; the outcome depends largely on your willingness to participate and engage in the process, which may sometimes result in discomfort. I cannot promise that your behavior or circumstances will immediately change. I can promise to support you, do my very best to understand you, identify and reflect back the reoccurring patterns in your life that may be holding you back, and help you clarify what you want for yourself and your future.

  • I offer both brief and long-term therapy. The length of your treatment is determined by your goals for therapy; shorter-term therapy focused on resolving a particular stressor or life phase might range from 12-18 sessions, while longer-term therapy focused on developing insight and creating deeper transformational change can last 1-2 years or longer. It’s important to me that you feel that you’re getting what you need from our sessions and that we’re on the same page regarding pace and progress, so I will occasionally check in to see if there’s anything you’d like to adjust within our time together.
